The Memory Barn

The Memory Barn transforms the historic brick house villages on Governor’s Island, once home to Coast Guard families, into a climate center for research and public engagement. The design preserves parts of the façade, the existing foundation footings, and incorporates the trees that have grown over time. The connections between the new and preserved structures link different programs and spaces while symbolizing the bond between the past and the future, creating a space where memories lay the foundation for new stories to unfold.
